Sky Shark Ad

Project: Sky Shark Ad

Client: Sky Shark Tubes

My Part: Freelance Artist. Responsible for development, concept through completion. Developed concept, wrote copy and created final art for publication.

Challenge: To create an ad to promote Sky Shark Tubes in the kite and hobby industries.

Solution: I created a suggestive 2 color ad that would stand out in a magazine where ads were primarily black and white, and wrote a tag line that would be memorable.

Results: Sales calls started the first morning the magazine came out. Sky Shark Tubes have now become the most widely used tube for high performance kites in the industry.

Software: Adobe Illustrator was used to create the illustration and QuarkXpress was used to finnish the layout.

Wahoo Ad

Project: Wahoo Sport Kite Ad

Client: Sky Burner Kites

My Part: Freelance Artist. Responsible for development, concept through completion. Developed concept, wrote copy and created final art for publication.

Challenge: To create an ad to introduce a new product.

Solution: I created an ad that played off the products name.

Results: High interest was generated and the kite remained in production for 10 years.

Software: Adobe Photoshop was used to create the illustration and QuarkXpress was used to finnish the layout.

NikNak Ad

Project: NikNak Sport Kite Ad

Client: Sky Burner Kites

Challenge: To create an ad to introduce a new product.

Solution: To use an artistic approach to generate interest. The bold overall look made the ad stand apart from others on the same magazine page.

Results: The product is remembered and sales have stayed steady over the years.

Software: Adobe Illustrator was used to create the original illustration and Adobe Photoshop was used to finnish the layout and enhance the illustration.

Gecko Ad

Project: Gecko Sport Kite Ad

Client: Progressive Line Kites

My Part: Freelance Artist. Responsible for development, concept through completion. Developed concept, wrote copy and created final art for publication.

Challenge: To create an ad to introduce a new product.

Solution: To play off the name where the lizard was focus. Geckos are everywhere, the dimensional lizard invades a normal flat plane ad.

Results: Interest generated sales for this imported product.

Software: Adobe Illustrator was used to create the background illustration, Adobe Photoshop was used to place and add dimension to the lizard and QuarkXpress was used to finnish the layout.

Product Flyers

Project: Product Flyers

Client: Sky Burner Kites/Progressive Line Kites

My Part: Freelance Artist. Responsible for development, concept through completion. Developed concept, wrote copy, created final art and created layout for publication.

Challenge: Create a Promotional flyer to send to distributors to announce a new product.

Solution: Product for photography was not available. Using 3D software I created dimensional models and mapped each model with fabric samples to give a more realistic look.

Results: Sales of the kite remained high to this day and two companies now manufacture it for world wide distribution.

Software: Adobe Illustrator was used to create logos and Adobe Photoshop was used to create image maps and background images. Strata Studio Pro 3D created the 3D models and QuarkXpress was used to finnish the layout.

DVD Ad

Project: USA Today DVD Ad

Client: Kmart Corporation

My Part: Lead Graphic Artist. Responsible for development, concept through completion. Developed final art and created layout for publication.

Challenge: Create a 1/2 page, 4 color ad to promote Kmart's DVD selection and price.

Solution: Working from a designers sketch I used a black and white Polaroid and a Stock Photo image to create this dynamic composite. Keeping in mind the message Kmart wanted to deliver, new, exciting, electrifying selections.

Results: Increased public awareness in Kmart's electronic media department.

Software: Adobe Photoshop was used to create the photo composite and QuarkXpress was used to finnish the layout.

ROP Ad

Project: Game Center ROP Ad

Client: Kmart Corporation

My Part: Lead Graphic Artist. Responsible for development, concept through completion. Developed concept, created final art and created layout for publication.

Challenge: Create a promotional ad to play up the new low price in home video game entertainment systems.

Solution: Given a verbal instructions of playing one system against the other. I came up with the idea of the two systems coming together in a video game impact for this 1/2 page black and white ad

Results: Kmart reported increased sales of video game systems for the weekend sale in the selected markets.

Software: Adobe Photoshop was used to create the photo composite and QuarkXpress was used to finnish the layout.

Pepsi Ad

Project: Pepsi In-Store Ad

Client: Kmart Corporation

My Part: Lead Graphic Artist. Responsible for development, concept through completion. Developed concept, created final art and created layout for publication.

Challenge: Create a promotional ad to fit with the Star Wars Episode 1 campaign to promote Pepsi's new Star Wars collectors cans. Images of the Pepsi cans could not be shown as directed by Pepsi and Lucas Industries.

Solution: Create a Sci-Fi look and feel of Star Wars. Working with a copywriter we set out to create mystery or sense of anticipation for what the new Pepsi cans could be.

Results: Increased awareness to drive sales of Pepsi products during the week of the sale.

Cash Cards

Project: Star Wars Kmart Cash Cards

Client: Kmart Corporation

My Part: Lead Graphic Artist. Responsible for development, concept through completion. Developed concept and created final art for production.

Challenge: Create promotional Limited Edition Kmart cash cards as part of the Star Wars Episode 1 campaign.

Solution: As with the Star Wars newspaper insert covers, I chose to create photo composite using images I received from Lucas Industries. I was given free range in use of imagery working in contact with Art Directors from Lucas Industries for final approval.

Results: Kmart was greatly pleased with the results of these cards and many numbered sets were put aside as special gifts for Kmart executives.

Software: Adobe Photoshop was used to create the photo composite and QuarkXpress was used to finnish the layout.

Postcards

Project: Star Wars Postcards

Client: Kmart Corporation

My Part: Lead Graphic Artist. Responsible for development, concept through completion. Developed concept and created final art for publication.

Challenge: Create an advanced postcard mailer to announce the availability of the limited edition Star Wars cash cards.

Solution: Take a direct pickup of the cash cards, I used the photo composite images I had submitted to Lucas Industries. I was given free range in use of imagery working in contact with Art Directors from Lucas Industries for final approval.

Results: Sales of these cards were at first only available on line. The postcards drove sales from the first day.

Software: Adobe Photoshop was used to create the photo composite and QuarkXpress was used to finnish the layout.

Star Wars Cover

Project: Star Wars Episode 1 Cover

Client: Kmart Corporation

My Part: Lead Graphic Artist. Responsible for development, concept through completion. Developed concept and created final art for publication.

Challenge: To create an newspaper insert cover as part of a campaign to promote the Star Wars Episode 1 line of merchandise at Kmart stores.

Solution: I chose to create photo composite using images I received from Lucas Industries. I was given free range in use of imagery working in contact with Art Directors from Lucas Industries for final approval.

Results: Two concepts were created and both were used in the end. Kmart reported a direct increase in toy sales during this campaign.

Music CD

Project: Kmart Music Vendor CD-Rom

Client: Kmart Corporation

My Part: Lead Graphic Artist. Responsible for development, concept through completion. Developed concept, created final art and created layout for publication.

Challenge: Create a CD insert booklet to provide information on Kmart's Music department.

Solution: Given a music oriented photo I reworked the image to give a rock concert lighting look. I then used sections of the image for each page of the book instead of creating eight separate images.

Results: Final CD with booklet was sent to all music vendors.

Software: Adobe Illustrator was used to create illustrations used on the CD-Rom. Adobe Photoshop was used to create the photo composite and QuarkXpress was used to finnish the layout.
